Start with the price
A team can be likely to win and still have an unattractive price. SharpDeck keeps the forecast probability, the fair price it implies and the best bookmaker price distinguishable. A displayed price can also be stale.
The fair price comes from the forecast
A 60% forecast implies a fair price of -150. Where the best sportsbook price is longer than that, the gap is the edge the board shows; where it is shorter, there is none. Edge is a comparison, not a promise.
Every forecast is priced when it is published
At each checkpoint the record stores the best sportsbook price on offer for the side the forecast named. When the game is graded, the forecast is settled as 1 unit at that price. If no price was on record, the forecast still counts for accuracy and carries no units; a price is never estimated after the fact.
Units are a measurement, not a recommendation
The units record answers one question: what would backing every published forecast at the best price on record have returned? It includes the losses and the short-priced winners that barely pay. It is not advice to bet, and no wagers were executed.
